Fun fact: Mitsubishi planned to build 1000 of these as a limited edition, but the car was critized so much by the press for being ugly, that production halted after only 139 cars.

They probably were afraid a large hatchback like this wouldn't be popular. Perhaps they could've made a offroady version of the regular Galant sedan, but I don't think that car is suitable for such bodywork.

Shame Mitsubishi never brought this to the US, especially considering Subaru did something similar in 1998 with the Legacy SUS (basically a sedan version of the Outback Limited).

This might have ended up being quite popular here.

I don't think so. When Lonsdale went bust, Mitsubishi decided to export the Sigma to the UK anyway. Merkur cars are German Fords that were not available to the American market in other ways.

It was the idea of selling the Australian-built Mitsubishi Sigma in the UK in order to circumvent some quota on the importing of Japanese cars. It didn't really work, and was a pretty dumb idea in hindsight.

Looks like the french cars that you could drive without licence.

Never heard about it. Was it something like Merkur brand, only Japan?

I have to think about making interior like that in my Favorit...

I also listed this car as a hatchback rather than concept, but I already corrected it.

Wow. this car is still made after 52 years. Fun fact is, that it was meant to save Studebaker, but Studebaker later went bust and this was produced as a separate brand.

Felicia Fun was also available as Felicia Midi Fun. It had big plastic cover above truck bed, often seen on ordinary Felicia Pickups and Vanplus. There were 3 colors available, yellow, orange and green, but only for bumpers, rollbar etc.

Price was 20 Million Dollar. Thats 1 Million Dollar per feet of car length which you would pay for that car.
