Engine used in this isnt same that Felicia uses. This is czech-engineered engine, but to Felicia they used older and heavier VW engine with less power.

Thanks for the translation, but I don't think that's what Mitsubishi was going for with this car. I think the same way ![]() But it is interesting fact for people who dont know russian squiggle letters, that it actually isnt related to letter R in any way, but it is often used as R in culture. |
||
|
Flipped "R" (seen on spare wheel of RVR) in azbuka is pronounced "Ja/Ya", and that in most cases as far as I know means "I" in english. I dont speak russian, only few words and sentences like Ya idu v les za gribami. - I am going to forest to find mushrooms.

A statement from the stewards read: ”Car 18 failed the ground clearance check. The left hand side of the car was found to be below the required minimum 60mm ground clearance.” OMG. Looks like there are nazi-inspectors. "Tiago Monteiro was disqualified because he had bread with Nutella™ for breakfast." It makes no sence, viewer dont see the difference. I would inderstand it if he would go oposite way, rammed pace car or drive his racecar from armchair like Mr. Bean did. This is ridiculous. -- Last edit: 2015-11-01 23:55:31 |

I dont see any legroom! And interior is made from recycled plastics used in Daewoo Nexias and Hyundai Ponys...
Urgh! |

Bright hard plastics? No, thank you. Well at least they are not copying design of european cars. Yes, the fact that everything will break down and fall apart five minutes from now is true. |

Rear end somewhat reminds me Seat Ibiza. But the interior is A.W.E.S.O.M.E.

Used as Mule for testing Checker Galva II in 1981. It was extended a lot to simulate Galva´s II length.

You mean luckily it never made production, that roof is awful. Oh, that is the reason why they had roof down in that magazine Without it, it looked very luxurious. -- Last edit: 2015-10-23 19:24:37 |

Featured in one issue of Svět Motorů (World of engines) - monopoly car magazine in communism era, alongside with rare Automobil(e). Shame it didnt make it over concept stage.

And yes, I deleted top speed, acceleration and fuel economy because it is not reliable for such old cars. Every two sources says something different. My two sources confirm same ones - magazine and website. But ok. |

I believe you are talking about US modelyears, which my sources confirm. 1960 would be 1959-1960, and 1961 would be 1960-1961. Therefore, this page is dedicated to the 1961 Comet, built from 1960 to 1961. And therefore, both engines were available from beginning to end. Oh, we have got confused model years and production years. Model years were 1960-1961, but as a tradition, car was avaliable from autumn 1959 to autumn 1961. -- Last edit: 2015-10-15 21:41:13 |

My apologies for the Canada-only thing, after some more research I found that the Comet was originally intended to be an Edsel, which went defunct just before the release. Therefore it was just called Comet for 1960 and 1961 (although it was sold through Mercury dealerships). In Canada, there was no 1960 Comet, as they sold the Frontenac there. Yes and apology acepted ![]() Desscythe17 a écrit There was nothing wrong with your pictures, but I found higher quality ones, so I replaced them. Ok, I can understand it. BTW, did you changed top speeds, 0-60 times and fuel economy to unknown? + in 1960 there was only 90HP version - some sources say it is 85HP, some 90HP. 101HP was only in 1961, and it was used after rebranding it to Mercury Comet from 1962 onwards. It was added as a option because 90/85 HP engine was sluggish. -- Last edit: 2015-10-15 17:39:39 |

It was Canada-only. No, it was not. Proof: Magazine Popular Mechanics was testing Comet in 1961. They were asking following Comet owners: manager from California, pensionist from Nevada, air-traffic guy from Georgia, technical drawer from Pennsylvania, bank employee from Michigan, retired firefighter from Michigan and doctor from California. In Chrom a Plameny magazine issue 05/15 is this car reviewed in 6 pages, that is quite a lot. It is a 1961 Comet of one lady from San Diego that bought it when it was brand new and she sold it to heir serviceman 4 years ago. Do you think that all these people would import the car from Canada? In fact 116 331 Comets were produced in 1960, which is strikingly better than Frontenac, that produced less than 10k, and it was still second best selling compact car in Canada. I doubt that "Comet only for Canada" would make such a monopoly, with advance nearly 100k more cars produced than Frontenac. I dont know either what was wrong with my front pic "EDIT: both" that it was replaced. -- Last edit: 2015-10-14 22:51:46 |

In 1961 model year Comet replaced Canadian brand that lasted one year: Frontenac. It was basically luxurious Falcon with odd mask and with Ford badges replaced by round badge with red leaf that Canada have in national flag.

Could be interior facelift.
|
||
|
Is it true that they could be started by removing hazard lights button and put it back upside down?
It would be hilarious. |
||
|
That is odd, usually, when one model stops producing, it will be no longer avaliable for other markets (if the production does not move in other country, like Daewoo - Uzbekistan case).
Interesting move on european market. "Lets throw away small engine and keep only the biggest one with 4 speed automatic transmission." Some people tend to confuse eagle and Chryslers versions, thats why I added same engine as Eagles: www.autorevue.cz/chrysler-vision-tsi-skvela-volba-zkusenosti_3 You can see here that it is stated that it have even more torque/power than US version. |
||
|
Doing it already. Funny thing is that badge is different but same shaped. They just slapped pentastar over the Eagle logo shape.

Rinspeed a écrit
Yes if you want the European version, you had to put the Chrysler version,not the Eagle version. We had adpoted this rule in the past, no two make for a rebadged car but 2 page because it can have differences in engines, logo could not be the same etc There are no tech differences between them, but okay I will do it as a standalone. I will at least edit it that it was presented in 1992 Detroit. |
||
|
I will edit this as Eagle Chrysler Vision, because it was called Chrysler in Europe. It is technically a name in different market, but I will keep Eagle in first place since it is proably their only not badge-engineered production car.
EDIT: Well nothing. Got rejected. -- Last edit: 2015-10-09 17:30:05 |

I could start a rant about how Audi, Skoda and Seat are mostly rebadged Volkswagens, but it's a slightly different story as the exteriors are mostly different. Apart from that greedy germans are keeping their inovative stuff in VWs, because Skoda wins lot of comparsion tests, even if it is from Protektorat Böhmen und Mähren (sorry if anyone german is offended). By the way, I should do the S120 thing tomorrow. Interesting responses. I love that they are no trollers on this site, but adult (or with adult manners) people. Great to talk about various car related things. |

Seriously what is the point in brands that use only badge engineered cars...
I mean, there is lot of component sharing in today world, but these are literally cars with different badge and mask. Eagle, Geo, Merkur, ZAZ (nowadays), Vauxhall/Opel (but the coolest vehicle from Vauxhall (Holden) VXR8 isnt for continental europe)... |

Without it, it looked very luxurious.
