The hood, trunk, and other features were also shaped the same. This would have cut down on tooling costs and made replacing parts easier. This would have also seated 6, and still been compact sized. Also, Cavalier was going to be the name of AMC's pony car, but GM had already trademarked it, even though they did not use it until 1982.
