I don't think so. When Lonsdale went bust, Mitsubishi decided to export the Sigma to the UK anyway. Merkur cars are German Fords that were not available to the American market in other ways.

It was the idea of selling the Australian-built Mitsubishi Sigma in the UK in order to circumvent some quota on the importing of Japanese cars. It didn't really work, and was a pretty dumb idea in hindsight.

Never heard about it. Was it something like Merkur brand, only Japan?
