fck 2016-02-06 20:14 | JFK wrote Phew, I was hoping for that, I saw rare Trabant 1.1 in pictures. The WrakRace (in CZ Autoštouchy) is different from what I meant - it was a race across europe in cheap old cars, but they scrapped the cars afterwards. WrakRace is more like demolition derby with road-illegal cars. Oh, didn;t know you also have race like Złombol. Too bad they are scrapped I will hunt some cheap Favorit Pick-up in Czech Republic as soon as I can afford third car.

Desscythe17 2016-02-03 19:31 | JFK wrote You cant really expect a safety from older city cars. Trabi doesnt look that bad, but it was most likely crashed in lower speed. The Trabant probably wasn't able to reach the testing speed, or took too long to get there.

fck 2016-02-02 21:01 | JFK wrote I would like to hear your opinion (EDIT: and of course fck´s too) on Maluch, since it is a big part of Polish car heritage. I personally like that car, much like every car from communism, but unfortunately I havent ridden one. Yes, it was a good car comparing to its time and circumstances, but choosing it as a daily car today is absolute madness. It's awfully slow (almost minute to get 100km/h, it's hard to safely enter to crowded roads outside town. It's more than likely you will became a decent car mechanic after spendind a year or two with 126p - it brokes and need maintenance (lubricating, fulfilling oils) very often. But in fact almost every repair is simple even for a beginner. You can demount an engine and rear axle in minutes. Fuel consumption is way too big for its performace (7-8l/100km), you need to tune the carburator from time to time and won;t be shocked if your Maluch eats even 10l/100km if you forgot about that. It has almost no luggage, space in the rear is enough at most for 8yo kid. Sometimes he tries to kill you by weak, easily heating brakes or sudden opening the doors (from mod. 1978, I know the guy who screw this up) - few years ago I almost lost my girlfriend that way entering a corner with 70kmh.. But there are three IMO most important advantages: 1. It's uncredible easy and cheap to repair 2. It performs better in really bumpy roads than some modern "SUV"s 3. Irreplaceable in mountains during winter - you need to just to turn out your car, turn on reverse gear and you will slowly climb on every snowed height ( Few einters ago I was the only one who did this somwhere in Beskid mountains, any other car, even the modern ones failed at most in the middle ) oh, and 4. It has nice swap potential - I saw Maluch with several engines like Uno 1.1, Punto 1.2, Yamaha R1 and it;s ride like hell. Few youtube clips: www.youtube.com/watch?v=KujCUCgn6TY (Maluch with Yamaha engine) Awesome amateur rally performance: www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdBuwzRAEAw ...and my favourite classic: REVERSE MALUCH www.youtube.com/watch?v=uaCp76nG5ck

fck 2016-02-02 17:59 | sajmon14 wrote Better get a Fiat Cinquecento/Seicento, especially the Sporting version. Looks a heck better and parts would be easier to find in Germany. Well they have less doors but who cares Agree. If you don't need 5dr body choose CC Sporting. I drove CC900 for a week and it's reliable as a typical city car. Incredible visibility in all directions, more space than in Tico, more comfortable seats, quite spacious for its size. The only reason you can choose Tico is you absolutely need 5 doors or you are absolutely out of money. According to polish users of these cars Tico consuming much less fuel: Factory average fuel consumption/user's average f.c. (min.)/user's average f.c. (max)/user's average f.c. (ecodrive) -Tico (l/100km) 6.2l Pb (xx lpg)/5.0 (5.8)/6.3 (7.3)/4.2 (5.1) - data from 849 users -CC900 (l/100km) 5.9 Pb (xx lpg)/6.0 (6.9)/7.8 (8.8)/5.2 (6.0) - data from 255 users -CC Sporting (l/100km) 6.2 Pb (xx lpg)/6.5 (7.6)/8.8 (9.6)/5.5 (6.5) - data from 79 users I type also lpg consumption in case if you decide to look after your car in Poland where more than a half of these cars has mounted LPG instalation.

Desscythe17 2016-02-01 21:45 | Gamer wrote I live in Lower Saxony (Dolní Sasko) so it will be hard. The Tico is based on an old Suzuki Alto though, maybe you could get that cheap. It's also more reliable than the Daewoo.

JFK 2016-02-01 17:05 | Gamer wrote @Desscythe: No, I don't think it was sold here. This car falls into that strange category of cars which were sold in Europe, but were way more common in Eastern Europe. Like the Maruti 800, the Daewoo Nexia/Racer...and the Tico. I dont know, if you are living close to D/CZ borders, but I could eventually buy it and drive it to your town. There are not very common, but it isnt something ultra rare either, so in used cars dealership there are few. -- Last edit: 2016-02-01 17:05:37

2011-05-17 18:17 | carcrasher88 wrote Yeah, Daewoo didn't actually start making 'good' cars until the Lacetti. We had one of them (in the form of a US market Suzuki Forenza) as a rental, and it was a vast improvement. Smooth ride, nice interior. It was very quiet, too. Very good car. Maybe that's why the Chevrolet version was Top Gear's second 'Reasonably Priced Car'... my dad had the Daewoo Lacetti from 2005-2008 and it was a very cool car nice interior and i keep seeing the exact one he owned

2011-04-23 18:11 | Worst car I've ever been in. We had one as a rental a few years ago, and the thing was only about a year old. There were your usual rental problems (dirty, worn seats, etc.), but it also had a horrible ride on the main roads and highways. It was worse than having a tractor as a daily driver. No wonder they only sell for $1,000-$2,000 on the dealer lots these days. Absolute junk. |
